DStv SD Single View Decoder

In order to set and control what your kids watch on DStv, and to ensure that their tender eyes and ears are not subjected to content beyond their age group, we recommend that you make use of the parental control features available on your digital decoder.

Age restrictions and what they mean

  • R18: allows you to view all content.
  • Family: will block all content rated PG 13, 16, 18 and R18, and only programmes with a FAM rating will be available for viewing.
  • PG 13: will block all content rated 16, 18 and R18, and only programmes with a FAM or PG 13 rating will be available for viewing.
  • 16: will block all content rated 18 and R18, and only programmes with a FAM, PG 13 or 16 rating will be available for viewing.
  • 18: will block all content rated R18, and all other programmes will be available for viewing.

Change your parental control PIN

  • Press Menu and select Parental Control.
  • Press OK.
  • Enter the default PIN 1234.
  • Select Change PIN.
  • Press OK.
  • Insert the default (1234) or your old PIN.
  • Insert your new PIN and repeat.
  • Exit.

Forgot your PIN?

If you've set your parental control levels, but have forgotten your PIN and need to have it reset, or if you've entered the incorrect PIN five times, please click here or dial *120*68584# from your cellphone*

*The cellphone number you use when dialling *120*68584# must be the number you registered when activating your DStv account.

Fix 1

  • Re-boot decoder via front panel
  • Power and Music note on single view decoders
  • Menu and Down arrow on Dual view
  • P- and V+ on PVR simultaneously

If not resolved:

Fix 2

  • Press MENU on the MultiChoice RCU
  • Scroll to Advanced Options and Press OK
  • Press OK on Dish Installation
  • Key in the PIN (9949)
  • Scroll to Reset to decoder defaults and Press OK
  • Press OK to confirm reset

Fix 3

  • Press MENU on the MultiChoice RCU
  • Press 1 then 7
  • Press OK to confirm reset

If the picture is not recovered:

Possible fault: Possible faulty decoder or faulty installation
Recommendation: Decoder to be tested before calling a DStv Accredited Installer

Older decoder models:

Fix 1

  • Ensure LNB cable/s are properly secured into the LNB In input/s in the back of the decoder
  • Press MENU on the MultiChoice RCU
  • Press 6 for Advanced Options
  • Press 1 for Dish Installation
  • Press the PIN (9949)
  • Press 1 for LNB Configuration
  • Press 1 for LNB 1 Position A
  • Ensure LNB settings are correct

LNB Power: ON, LNB Lo Frequency: 9750, LNB Hi Frequency: 10700

  • When complete, scroll to Accept these Settings and Press OK
  • Press the Exit button
  • Press 2
  • Press 1
  • Ensure the Network Settings are correct

Answer: Orbital Pos: PAS 7/10, Frequency: 11594, Symbol Rate: 27500, Use NIT: YES, FEC: 5/6

  • When complete, scroll to Accept these Settings and Press OK
  • Press the Exit button
  • Press OK on Scan All Networks

Fix 2

  • Check the UHF setting
  • Press MENU, Scroll to Advanced Options and Press OK
  • Press OK on Dish Installation
  • Press the PIN (9949)
  • Scroll to Reset to decoder defaults and Press OK
  • Press OK to confirm reset
  • When scanning complete, readjust UHF Setting if the picture is lost

If picture has not recovered:

Possible fault: Possible faulty decoder or faulty installation.
Recommendation: Decoder and smartcard should be taken to MultiChoice for testing, before the DStv Accredited Installer is called.

  • Check that the time isn't showing on the decoder panel, if it is then Press the Power button on the DStv RCU.
  • Check that the TV is on the correct channel or on the correct AV mode. Either Press the TV/AV or TV/VIDEO or FUNCTION or SOURCE button on the TV RCU.
  • If there is any other device besides a TV and Decoder e.g. VCR or DVD, please ensure that it is ON and on the correct channel or Mode.
