5 Movies to watch with your kids

Movie time is magical when they can share it with you! Make a bowl of popcorn and cuddle up with your kids.

1. Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism

This film is perfect for those who love a good screen adaptation of their favourite books, and especially if you liked the recent retelling of Annie. It’s an inspiring tale with an all-star cast that’ll be a hit with tween and inbetweener girls who love all things magic, as the plucky heroine is a determined young orphan named Molly.

Why they’ll love it

Based on Georgia Byng’s 2002 novel, Molly discovers her natural knack for hypnotism from a book in the orphanage library, just in time to set off on a thrilling journey to reunite with her best friend and put herself on an exciting path to fame and fortune.

2. The Steam Engines of Oz

This Saturday kids’ movie is perfect for parents who want to indulge in a bit of nostalgia with a familiar story from their childhood while introducing their kids to the magical world of Oz. The unusual 3D animation will also appeal to those who appreciate the more offbeat types of animation, and this particular steampunk style is seldom seen outside of PC games. The story will appeal to boys and girls of all ages, but we’d especially recommend it for all those girls who don’t necessarily dream of being princesses.

Why they’ll love it

Based on a graphic novel, the story takes place 100 years after Dorothy set Oz free. Our once-beloved Tin Man has become the heartless villain in this tale, and while fans might miss Dorothy, there are more than enough nods to the original tale to delight existing fans without confusing new or younger viewers. Victoria, the spunky young engineer who keeps all the machines in working order, is a welcome role-model for girls who might themselves dream of tinkering with machines one day.

Why they’ll love it
