All the buzz about 12 new shows on Honey this Africa Month


Welcome to the Honey (DStv channel 173) hive this May. Get ready to meet everyone from Nollywood Queens to battling salon staff and all the lovers, daters, and brides and grooms to be who’re drizzling on that Honey love

May is Africa Month on Honey (DStv channel 173), and there are up to 12 new ways to celebrate, from new series to new seasons of your favourite Honey shows.

“We are particularly excited about an observational reality show where we follow the lives of 5 fabulous Nigerian women (in Nollywood Queens). Viewers can also anticipate some drama in the kitchen as a man decides who, between his mother and his wife, cooks his favourite dishes best (in Mom vs. Wife: Zambia), and in our style category we have Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa vying for salon champion (in Salon Battle). Stay locked on Honey for incredible lifestyle content,” says Zinzi Velelo, Honey’s Head of Content.

PS: If the Pastors Wives series has you glued to your pew, you’ll want to stick around for the reunion special part 2 on Friday, 14 May at 20:00 when Nandipha Mlombi, Phume Khetang, Anietie Ezeimo, Adeola Da Costa-Ayo and Innocent Sadiki take viewers through never-before-seen footage, unpack their confessions, and explain the back stories behind all the drama for host Sonia Mbele. Then you can watch it all again as the repeat of S1 launches on Friday, 21 May.

Brand new to the Honey hive

African Lifestyle is sweet this May with makeover reality series Salon Battle, a glimpse into the glamour with Nollywood Wives, 1 man will have to tell his mom and his wife who cooks better in Mom vs. Wife: Zambia, a groom-to-be will show off how well he knows his bride when he plays Guess The Dress, and wait ’til you meet the man behind the most gorgeous makeovers in Lagos…

Streaming cameras are set up in 3 different hair and nail salons in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. Stylists and technicians at these different salons must then race against the clock to each complete a look. We cut between the streams until each salon does their big reveal. Will it be a hit or miss? Only the big reveal will tell. It’s the ultimate beauty competition, and a fantastic introduction to the latest trends across the continent! Try it if you’re a fan of Hair Knockout.

In each episode of this cooking competition, a man’s wife and his mother must both cook his favourite meal. As viewers, we’ll get insider tips on variations on some incredible Zambian dishes. He will taste their dishes without knowing who made which dish and choose the plate he likes best. The woman who has whipped up the best dish, wins boasting rights forever. Host Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya will be keeping the peace at the feast. But viewers, if you can’t stand the heat, stay out of this kitchen.

In each episode of this fun 13-episode, 30-minute reality show, a bride-to-be and her entourage will take on that all-important wedding dress hunt at a very special bridal boutique, looking for The One. Once she’s picked her dress, the Guess The Dress team will pick 3 more dresses and show them, along with the bride’s choice, to her groom. And he’ll have to figure out which 1 of the women he loves wants to wear on their big day. If he gets it right, he wins a big cash prize.

Along the way we’ll hear their love stories and meet their entourage of friends and family, too.

The venue for their dates will be the matchmaking friend’s house. The chef: that same matchmaking friend, who’ll also help to choose their single friends’ outfits for the dates. And we’ll be flies on the wall and enjoy an intimate look at key moments in the dating game.
