Like the proverbial English bus, where you wait for one and then three come along at once, the cricket summer has suddenly become a lot busier for England.
On Wednesday, July 8, the first Test of a three-match series against West Indies will take place at Hampshire’s Rose Bowl. This marks the start of a busy period for England: they have two more Tests against the West Indies this month, and then three against Pakistan straight after that.
All the action will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
It’s been a strange summer for England, but with one exception they look as formidable as ever. Captain Joe Root had to self-isolate after his wife gave birth, handing the reins to Ben Stokes.
Covid-19 has had other consequences: the venue itself was selected because they have a hotel on site, allowing the fixture can take place in a bio-secure environment.
If England’s batting looks a little scratchy, there are no such concerns with the bowling, which looks fast and lethal with the like of Mark Wood, Jofra Archer and Ollie Stone all capable of inflicting damage.
West Indies, meanwhile, will meet England in similar fashion. With quicks like Kemar Roach, Jason Holder, Shannon Gabriel, Chemar Holder and Alzarri Joseph, they will be confident of exposing England’s potentially brittle frontline in what is shaping as an intriguing series that all cricket fans will be savouring.
