From the wonders of Animal Day documentaries, to crazy reality shenanigans and the pulse racing drama of eHostela, it’s all on Access this month

October on DStv Access is all about variety. It's everything from the beauty of World Animal Day documentaries on National Geographic Wild (DStv 182), to the latest science and engineering breakthroughs on Da Vinci (DStv 318) with shows like Disasters Engineered S1 and Secret Life Of Babies. That's TV that the whole family can watch together.

There's fun stuff for your little monsters this Halloween month with the brand-new Ben 10 movie, Ben 10 Versus The Universe on Cartoon Network (DStv 301), and the new season of PJ Masks on Disney Junior (DStv 309), along with Halloween special marathons across the kids' channels on Saturday, 31 October.

The big news for soapie addicts is that the 7th season of taxi war telenovela Isibaya is starting on Mzansi Wethu (DStv 163) at the end of the month. But there's so much drama to sustain you until then. The epic and award-winning hostel assassin drama eHostela comes to Mzansi Wethu (DStv 163), and if you're looking for something that's more about friendship and fun with a dramatic twist, Unmarried S1 on Mzansi Wethu (DStv 163) is must-see TV.

There is so much fun reality TV to love on Mzansi Wethu (DStv 163). You can see Somizi prepare for his wedding in Living The Dream With Somizi S4, Nimrod Nkosi is helping a young woman who is petrified that she might be dating her biological half-brother in Utatakho S7, Moshe has a real romancer on his hands in Uyang’thanda Na? S4, and the guy wants his own brother's girlfriend! And Andile Gaelesiwe is making troubled couples think twice about their issues in Before I Do S1.

Movie channel TNT (DStv 137) is celebrating its birthday month with some fun old faves and the delightful brand-new British coming of age drama Days Of The Bagnold Summer, which takes some quite unexpected twists. And Mzansi Wethu (DStv 163) is showcasing an unusual story, too in the movie Ngithanda Wena.

And on the kykNET Lekker (DStv 148) channel exclusive to DStv Access viewers, we have the classic Emo Adams and Taliep Peterson musical comedy series Alie Barber starting.

Isibaya S7

A village feud from way back between the Zungu and Ndlovu families in Bhubesini continues to this day, but now the families have shifted their power struggle into rival taxi businesses and an epic clash over territories and control between Soweto-based Mpiyakhe Zungu (Siyabonga Thwala) and patriarch Samson Ndlovu (Bheki Mkhwane) and his bloodthirsty brother, Mandla (Bongani Gumede).

Pulse-pounding local drama series


eHostela S1

2 maskandi artists fall head over heels in love when they meet at a high-profile music competition. But the male artist is hiding a deadly secret. Mndeni (Thibani Nzuza) is a trained assassin, an inkabi, from a family of hitmen operating within the Delafuka Hostel in KZN’s KwaMashu Township. In exchange for being allowed to go live an ordinary life, he agrees to carry out one last assassination. Unknown to him, though, the target is his new love’s father. And then his love, Khethiwe (Lungelo Mpangase), asks him to use his contacts within the hostel to hunt down her father’s killer.

Nimrod Nkosi is back helping people to identify their biological fathers with paternity tests, and assisting them to reach out and make contact once they know the truth. This season, Nimrod will be helping a young woman who grew up suspecting that her mother cheated with a man who has the same surname as the man she’s now dating herself. Could they be related?

Uyang’thanda Na? S4

This is a “watch with a friend” show, because you’ll need someone to grab onto while you’re shrieking and cringing in shared humiliation, or basking in joy. Host Moshe Ndiki helps his guests to ask their crushes one very difficult question: Do you like me back (Uyang’thanda na)? He’ll work with them to set up a cool date in a safe space where they can ask the big question, and some guests take this as license to pour on the romance, right at the starting gate.

In this reality show, host Andile Gaelesiwe reaches out to help couples who want to take their relationship to the next level – whether that’s moving in together, getting married, having a baby or starting a business – to work through any stumbling blocks that they’re already facing in those relationships, or that are giving them doubts. Andile uses her warmth to set everyone at ease before she talks with them, and slowly uncovers the underlying issues troubling one partner who’s saying no while the other one is all go.

Secret Life Of Babies

This documentary special narrated by Martin Clunes (Doc Martin) will draw on recent scientific studies about the first 3 years of human life. As well as exploring how all of this happens, the documentary reveals surprising facts – like that babies don’t even have kneecaps when they’re born, and they have no fear of even big, predatory animals, and they understand as much as 3 times the amount of words that they can say. The documentary will also reveal how babies can recover when things go terribly wrong.

A Force For Good S3

This documentary series takes viewers inside the various branches of the SANDF to talk to service personnel about why they joined up, and what it’s like to wear the uniform. Curing Alzheimer’s

Along with exploring the history of Alzheimer’s Disease, this in-depth documentary will look at modern developments in spotting the disease early, and current treatments, along with progress on work towards prevention. 1 in 4 people carry the genetic marker that identifies them as being susceptible to Alzheimer’s. Given how widespread Alzheimer’s is and how it devastates families, this is definitely worth a look.

There’s even a kangaroo. She specialises in the smaller exotic animals, who require the most delicate of handling.

Days Of The Bagnold Summer

This brand-new British film adapted from the 2012 graphic novel by Joff Winterhart, stars Earl Cave as heavy metal-loving teenager Daniel Bagnold and Monica Dolan as his gentle, understanding mother Sue. The two are driving each other up the walls of their boring suburban house over the course of an English summer. Daniel is moping because he was supposed to go visit his dad is the USA in sunny Florida but the trip has been cancelled.
