DStv Access tells South Africa’s stories in January 2021


Enjoy all your favourite kind of shows, from mediums to Idols and Housewives with a South African flavour on DStv Access January 2021

DStv Access celebrates all things local this January, for every type of TV you want to see, there’s a fresh South African point of view to enjoy. Psychic mediums, supernatural dramas, decor shows, movies, competition shows, glamorous mums, snake hunters, kids shows… it’s the world through our eyes. There are also international series to enjoy, like Steven Seagal: Lawman and 90 Day Fiancé.

But nothing could be fresher than a look at local arts and design with musician, activists and storyteller Pilani Bubu.

Design For You With Pilani Bubu S8

Pilani looks at how we can bring soul, culture and aesthetics into our living spaces. She’ll be visiting homes and chatting to local design and decor experts like Milner Fashion House, Colbert Mashile, Christelle of @home With Christelle, and Jeanne Stravino to reveal how everything from furniture placement to colour and texture, fabrics, lighting, finishes and more, can influence the look and feel of your space. At the end of each episode, she’ll have a new segment, Pilani’s Picks, in which she’ll single out one design element to elaborate on.

Secrets, lies, second wives and witchcraft! January’s hottest stories are off to a dramatic start on DStv Access.


The Herd S2

It’s been 7 months since the events of S1, and MaMngadi is trying to turn her back on witchcraft. But fate has plenty of temptations in store, and troublesome relatives crawling out of the woodwork. This season, Bheki Sibiya, Nunu Khumalo, Mbali Maphumulo and Nomsa Nene are joining the cast. Bheki plays charming jailbird Smangaliso, who’s out to take over his late brother Bhekisizwe’s family and life, while Nomsa plays MaMngadi's sinister witch mother, MaMthembu.

Ikhaya S2

Eddie Sebatjane’s secret life and secret wife came out in S1. Now, everybody knows about his two wives and two families, and they’ll be trying to get along as they live together under one roof. But Eddie still has secrets to keep – like the fact that wife #2, Cebile, accidentally ran over and killed Mosima, the daughter of wife #1, Raisibe. Raisibe is on a hunt for the truth and the killer this season, unaware that she’s living in a house of lies and guilty consciences.

Let’s get real!

DStv Access is bringing it with the reality shows in January. South Africa’s most popular wildlife show, Snakes In The City, is back thanks to a determined Simon and Siouxsie, who flew back out here the moment the travel ban lifted. Psychic medium Lloyd is back chatting to the ancestors, and he and Please Step In’s Angie are healing hearts and families. There are also lessons to be learnt in I Blew It, along with more life lessons about love and babies in Unexpected and 90 Day Fiancé.

Siyaya: Search For The Big 7 S1

The Siyaya young explorers are off on a 4-episode voyage of discovery by car, by foot and by boat. They’ll be visiting the Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa, while also searching for 7 big animals, including a whale, a 5-metre great white shark, and the elephant itself. And they’ll see a lot of smaller animals along the way… well, smallish, like a lizard big enough to eat a rabbit, giant snails, frogs and dolphins. They’ll also look at the park’s other attractions, including rock art in the caves.

The sweetly spooky series, based on the Vampirina Ballerina series of books written by Anne Marie Pace, focuses on Vee the little vampire and her family, who’ve moved from Transylvania and opened a “Scare B&B” for monsters in the US in Pennsylvania. This season, we’ll see Grandpop struggle with pretending to do human things when he comes to babysit Vee, Vee tries to learn to surf, we see what a traditional Transylvanian Christmas is like as the children try to lure in Spooky Claus, and we celebrate 2 different versions of Halloween.
