DStv channels impacted by COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting industries and economies across the world, and the video entertainment industry is no different. Here is a list of DStv production and schedule changes that have been implemented.

The global response to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak has affected many aspects of daily life, including our favourite sporting events and even our favourite series.

Here is the latest from channels with major scheduling changes or big news. *Please note that all schedules are subject to further changes, and that updates can occur at a moment’s notice.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards postponed

Kids and the young-at-heart were looking forward to the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards on Sunday 22 March, but the awards show has been postponed to protect the artists and every person involved or attending the event.

There’s still no word on the new date, but check back here to find out more, as its announced.


Cartoon Network (301)

Although there has not been an update on rescheduling or cancellations of shows, the network has produced a cool rap song aimed at informing kids about hygiene, how and when to take precautions when sick, and to wash their hands. Be warned, this will stick in your head, but it’s an earworm for a good cause so sing along and stay healthy.

Disney XD (304)

Season two of Big Hero 6, which was scheduled to premiere 27 April at 17:00, has been delayed. Instead, be sure to tune into the Toon Festival with Phineas and Ferb, as well as many more animated friends on weekdays until 1 May from 09:00 to 17:00.

Disney Jr. (309)

New episodes of Fancy Nancy Clancy, which were scheduled to premiere weekdays from 20 April, have been postponed. Instead, catch up on all your Disney Junior favourites every weekend with staked repeat episodes of Fancy Nancy Clancy, PJ Masks, Vampirina, Sofia the First and T.O.T.S.


NickToons (308)

NickToons channel 308 has also seen a shake up with its schedule with some of your kids’ favourite shows moving to different time slots, here are the updated schedules.

The channel has confirmed the below shooting breaks but return dates are subject to change as isolation requirements unfold.

  • E! News and Pop of the Morning - confirmed shooting break - 13 March to 27 March
  • Daily Pop - confirmed shooting break - 16 March to 27 March
  • Nightly Pop - confirmed shooting break - 16 March through 26 March
  • In The Room - confirmed shooting break - starting week of 3/30
  • The Soup - shooting has halted until further notice.

BBC Brit (120)

  • Stacey Dooley Investigates: The Bounty Hunters – Territory premiere now scheduled for Tuesday, 19 May 2020 at 22:15.
  • Stacey Dooley Investigates: ISIS Brides – Territory premiere now scheduled for Tuesday, 26 May 2020 at 22:15.

Deutsche Welle (446)

Deutsche Welle will be halting the entire production of TV magazines as of Monday, 23 March 2020 until further notice. However, the news and current affairs channel will continue to produce daily news programs from Berlin.

Zee World (166)

Zee World has announced some changes due to the nationwide lockdowns announced in India and South Africa. Jodha & Akbar will be halted and the channel will screen Twist of Fate S1 from 1 April at 21:00. Furthermore, Ring of Fire will be also be enter production break and the channel will screen Ganga S1 from 1 April at 20:00.

Star Life (DStv 167)

From 1 April 2020, all programmes on Star Life (DStv 167) including Kulfi, Made for Each Other, The Inseparables, Family Affairs, Let’s Dancy and A Perfect Lie will be halted. The channel will screen some older successful shows over seven to eight weeks, during the following weekly slots:

  • 18:00 – 19:00: The Crossroads
  • 19:00 – 21:30: Forever Yours
  • 21:30 – 23:00: Chasing My Heart
  • Daily Bollywood movies will continue as normal from 3 – 6pm CAT.

A representative from Star Life said in a statement, "Dear Viewers, as you may be aware, due to the global COVID 19 crisis, countries around the world are observing a preventive lockdown. Unfortunately, this emergency has also impacted the shooting and production of your favourite shows. Under these circumstances, you will be seeing the return of some of your favourite Star Life shows for your continued entertainment. We regret any inconvenience caused and intend to resume services soon. In the meantime, we hope to keep getting your love and support. Please continue watching Star Life.”

Talk Shows on M-Net, 1Magic and Vuzu

Popular US talk shows; The Kelly Clarkson ShowThe Late Late Show with James Corden and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on M-Net (ch. 101), as well as The Talk on 1Magic (ch. 103), The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Vuzu (ch. 116) and The Doctors on Mzansi Magic (ch. 161) - have halted production as a result of COVID-19.

You can still however enjoy new episodes of Kelly Clarkson, James Cordon, The Talk, Ellen and The Doctors in their regular timeslots, as we have not aired all their recorded shows as yet.

Please Note: the last recording of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will be coming your way this week Sunday, tune in to see his stark, audience-less set and his final burn before he signs off! M-Net will screen repeats of its brand-new drama series Still Breathing in this slot until further notice.
