DStv makes one viewer’s dream come true at Africa’s Richest Race Day

She came, she saw, and she basked in the ultimate VIP experience at the Sun Met which went down at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town.

It pays to be a DStv subscriber and Rorisang Moeketsi, winner of the Sun Met VIP experience sponsored by DStv, E! Entertainment and TRESemmé, can definitely attest to that. All she had to do was enter the competition and just like that, she was rubbing shoulders with the who’s who at Africa’s Richest Race Day.

We caught up with Rorisang to hear all about her experience.

Tell us about your overall experience at the Sun Met.

From the moment it started, I can just say it was a dream. From the flights to and from Cape Town, the sponsors made sure that I was truly spoiled. I can simply say I felt like a star. Even at the Table Bay Hotel, the manager made sure to make me feel like “this is your weekend” and sharing the red carpet with Gert-Johan Coetzee was a dream on its own. He’s so humble and down to earth, which was surprising because he’s such a big name and he, as my designer, even went above and beyond his call of duty when it came to making me feel like a goddess in the gown he designed.

What is your personal red-carpet style and how does it compare to the designer gown you wore by Gert-Johan?

I don’t have any specific rule or style I follow. Sometimes I want a full flowing gown, and at times I’ll want a dress that hugs me and accentuates and complements my body, and Gert delivered 100%. I don’t take this experience lightly because personally I’m so passionate about the media industry, about modelling and being an influencer. And who gets to be dressed by Gert and keep the dress? Hanging out with him at the event was the highlight of my day.

Who is the one celebrity you wanted to meet at the Sun Met?

Well I’ve met her before at her book signing but I was looking forward to seeing Bonang – I mean that’s Queen B; you can’t get enough of seeing her. I also enjoyed chatting with the current Miss SA Sasha-Lee Olivier, she’s a gem of a person.

Did you bet on a horse, and did your horse win?

Bet? Horse? Hahaha, I did not do any of that, I was honestly there for the fashion. My eye was thoroughly captured by the elegance and glamour of it all. It was funny seeing people asking, “who’s that girl and why are they treating her like a VIP?” And I was like… well, that’s because I am a VIP.

Was this your first time at the Sun Met?

No, my first time was in 2018 but this experience was completely different. The first time I was there for work, promotion stuff, but this time I was like “yeah, I’ve made it, I’ve arrived”.

Who was your plus-one at the Sun Met and Sun International Marquee?

It was my sister. Somebody please tell her how lucky she is to have me as her sister. We had a lovely sisterly time together.
