DStv’s pulse-pounding international series, 11-17 June

New Amsterdam tackles the pandemic & a plane crash, 9-1-1 & 9-1-1: Lone Star are back with a bang and a quake, best friends’ loyalties are tested in Sistas, and it’s timewarp time on Riverdale

It’s going to be a suspenseful week when the best international series première on DStv. The brand-new season of hospital drama New Amsterdam kicks off with Dr. Max (Ryan Eggold) doing double duty when both COVID and a plane crash hit the ER. A landslide takes out the Hollywood sign in 9-1-1 and a volcano erupts in Texas in 9-1-1: Lone Star. Their drama might make things look laid back in The Mallorca Files, but rest assured there is evil under the sun.

It’s time for the much-anticipated S4 finale of The Handmaids Tale on streaming platform Showmax, and there’s big time jump coming in the latest season of Riverdale.

All your first responders, doctors taking on disaster, detectives and murders…

New Amsterdam S3

The new season starts with the hospital staff in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic’s early days and a plane crash floods the already overburdened staff with even more urgent cases. With everyone pushed to their limits, what Max has been saying about the fact that the medical system is broken is now blatantly clear. Other big storylines this season include Dr. Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) being promoted to Medical Director, Max tackling systemic racism within New Amsterdam, and the tug of war between Max, Helen and Dr. Cassian Shin (Daniel Dae Kim).

9-1-1 S4

The first responders all have their own issues to deal with as the COVID-19 pandemic hits Los Angeles. Athena (Angela Bassett) heads back to work at the police station after her severe beating at the end of S3 while pursuing a suspect, and her daughter, May (Corinne Massiah), starts working at the dispatch centre much to her mother’s dismay. Seismic activity causes a huge landslide that destroys the Hollywood sign, and there is also a mountain of bizarre calls that send the fire squad to multiple emergencies – and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Handmaid's Tale S4 Finale

The caps and gloves are off in the season finale of The Handmaid's Tale. Offred/June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) has 1 goal and that’s to get justice for the atrocities that were committed against her and those she loves. You’re not going to want to miss this episode – especially the last scene of the finale, which leaves the door open for anything to happen as well as reaching a “satisfying” point in June’s story. But this won’t be the last of Gilead. The Handmaid’s Tale has been renewed for S5.
