DiepCity S1

This brand-new telenovela comes from the production team behind LockdowneHostela S2 and Vula Vala, and centres on four young women who were forced into crime while still in high school, just to make ends meet, and are now trying to make their way in the world. The first of the four we meet is small-time housebreaker Nox (Nozuko Ncayiyane) who was arrested after her brilliant little brother was shot dead during a robbery. Now she’s back home with her alcoholic dad and angry mom, Thandiwe (Dawn Thandeka King), who blames her for her brother’s death.

The Flight Attendant S1

After making a passenger’s Mile High Club dreams come true, flight attendant Cassie (The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco) wakes up in a strange hotel room with the guy she hooked up with dead next to her and blood on her hands. Based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian. See an early preview episode on Monday, 5 April at 21:30, and the series will build to a box set, so episodes will stay up on Catch Up during the season’s run.

Genius: Aretha

Genius: Aretha, the third in National Geographic’s Genius series of docu-dramas (following their stories about Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso), will air for the first time in South Africa on Wednesday, 30 June at 21:00. The series, which features breath-taking, note-perfect performances of Aretha’s key hits – like I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You), Chain of Fools, Don’t Play That Song, Save Me, I Knew You Were Waiting For Me, Freeway of Love, and Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves – by lead actress Cynthia Erivo, will explore Aretha’s life and that special focus, determination, inspiration and the gift for interpretation that earned her the title of Genius, along with placing her life in its social context of growing up in a black family in the US during the mid-1900s, and her key position within the civil rights movement.

Lingashoni S1

Veteran actor Patrick Mofokeng and Thuli Thabethe lead a strong cast in brand new telenovela Lingashonia show that will tell a tale of a poverty-stricken farm worker who returns to his former life as a high-flying businessman after a decade-long memory loss. After witnessing a murder by a prominent politician - Joburg Mayor Robert Nondumo [Luzuko Nkqeto], monied ‘tenderpreneur’ Mandla Cele [Patrick Mofokeng] goes on the run before surviving a murder from a close family member, which led to his memory loss. After being discovered by Seipati Moeketsi [Liteboho Molise], a farmworker and her two children, along a riverbank, Mandla starts a new life with them as Themba. Mandla weds Seipati and lives a content life in the farm, until 10 years later when an incident leads to him getting flashbacks of who he really is - Mandla Cele.

Judi Dench's Wild Borneo Adventure

In this new mini-series, Oscar-winning actress Dame Judi Dench takes us on the trip of a lifetime to Borneo. Beautifully filmed with cutting-edge technology, join Dame Dench as she explores the lush rainforests, magical wildlife and spectacular coastlines of Malaysian Borneo. She comes face-to-face with a variety of unique animals and meets the amazing individuals who live alongside them, all while examining the threats posed by global warming and deforestation.

Prodigal Son S2

In the second season of Prodigal Son, all of the main cast members return, including Tom Payne as criminal profiler Malcolm Bright and Michael Sheen as Martin Whitly, Malcolm's father and serial killer known as The Surgeon. Also returning are Bellamy Young and Halson Sage, who portrayed Malcolm's mother Jessica Whitly and sister Ainsely Whitly, respectively. Following a dramatic season one finale, season two begins with Bright's personal life in disarray as a result of his sister Ainsley's shocking actions.

Birds of Prey
