From Chicago to Harlem, DStv’s International series are going places 4-10 June

From a Cat Cafe to Chicago, Harlem to Boston, DStv’s international series will take you there – and inside some twisted lives in the new season of Why Women Kill and the season finale of SVU

Whether you love comedy, crime or a mixture of the 2, DStv has something for you this week.

Single cat ladies are getting the representation they crave in Mayim Bialik’s brand-new comedy series Call Me Kat.

Forest Whitaker’s real-life based character Bumpy Johnson is out of hiding and sinking his grip into 1960s Harlem drug and gang wars in Godfather of Harlem.

There’s 3 times the Chicago city entertainment as Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. return for their Tuesday night watch party. And City On A Hill gives us a similarly intense look at police in action – same business, different city.

Finally, there are 2 distinctly different takes on murder in the season finale of Law & Order: SVU – which is giving us a hint of wedding bells – and in the season premiere of Marc Cherry’s scandalously slaughterous and glamorous Why Women Kill, which brings us new faces and twisted new reasons to kill your lover.

Call Me Kat S1

Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory's Amy, stars in this new comedy series inspired by Miranda Hart’s series Miranda. A 39-year-old single woman named Kat quits her job to open a cat cafe, where customers can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a snuggle with 1 of the resident cats. Soon fur is flying and romance might be brewing, too, when Kat’s former crush, Max (Cheyenne Jackson), returns from years of travelling and starts working at the bar next door to Kat’s cafe.

Chicago P.D. S8

Voight and his team are facing 2 major challenges this season: COVID-19 and sweeping police reforms. Voight seems unwilling to back down on using violence against suspects and he butts heads with Atwater over the issue, as well as about systemic racism within the police department. Episode 8 in particular will centre on the police murder of a black man during a traffic stop. The season will also explore Upton’s experiences growing up with a violent and abusive father and the issue of domestic violence over several episodes.

City On A Hill S2

Attention turns to the Roxbury neighbourhood of Boston in the 1990s. Assistant District Attorney Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge) and corrupt FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) need to restore peace to a community torn apart by drugs, gangs and violence and where the police are no longer welcome – since news of the FBI being in bed with local mob boss Whitey Bulger has gotten out. Community activist Grace (Pernell Walker) joins the fray in a new season that leans into City On A Hill’s comparisons with The Wire.

Why Women Kill S2

S2 features a completely new set of deadly women, so you won’t have to play catch-up with S1. The action kicks off in Suburban USA in 1949, where the appearance of perfection is a social necessity. The pinnacle of perfection for 1 hausfrau named Alma (Allison Tolman) is her glamorous local Garden Club. But when she’s told pityingly, “They don’t let frumps into the garden club,” this worm is going to turn. And with gardening as a hobby, there’s always a handy hole to bury her mistakes in.

Law & Order: SVU S22

Benson and Rollins come to the aid of a homeless single mother who could be their key to taking down a high-level politician at the heart of a child rape trafficking ring. And since this episode will feature a crossover with the new Law & Order: Organised Crime series, Chris Meloni will be back as Detective Stabler. Will he be invited to the wedding? It looks like this short, 16-episode season is set to end with Fin and Phoebe making plans to walk down the aisle and maybe even tying the knot.
