It’s time for the boere to separate the wheat from the chaff

For 12 seasons (and 13 marriages later), we’ve helped our farmers find love with the one suitable person to complement them. And this season of Boer Soek ‘n Vrou is no different.

It’s time to get down and dirty

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a farmer? Is it that pre-requisite khaki shirt, a mud-stained bakkie or perhaps, the mandatory shorts and the socks? Ah, those socks that just have to sneak out of the boots that were designed for mountainous terrains. But luckily with DStv, we have authentic reality shows like Boer Soek ‘n Vrou (Farmer Seeks a Wife) that debunk all those long-held stereotypes we’re so fond of forming and believing.

If there’s something farmers do really well, it’s tending and caring, waiting patiently throughout the seasons to eventually reap the fruits of their labour - literally. From cattle farmers to fresh produce growers, a quality all of these hardworking singletons on the show share is a deep love for their work, and all they need is someone to share it with. The show also gives viewers the chance to experience some of the most picturesque and largely unseen natural beauty of this fine land of ours as host Leah treks through the scenic countryside visiting the farmers who want to find love. Of course, it would be futile to claim a connection with someone without interacting with them in your true element – and for our farmers, that’s the farm, so off to the plaas we go.

Where we stand with season 12 thus far

Now that the farmers introduced their potential partners to life on the farm, the ball is in the guests’ court to see if they’ll enjoy rural but comfortable living. From livestock rearing in the little Karoo to the sunflower fields of the Free State, our farmers prove to be more romantic than the slick city boys. And no, we’re not hating on the city, we’re just loving our farmers. Especially our wine farmers, because as we know, no good story started with a glass of milk. Especially a love story.
