As you prepare to settle down safely indoors, DStv has been hard at work ensuring we have everything we need to keep you company from the comfort of your own home. From news to entertainment, sport, kids’ content, music and movies, we’ve got you covered.

We’ve even included five extra channels to the mix to make sure there’s something in store for everyone. That’s right we’re determined to keep you informed and entertained, no matter what it takes!
In fact, with so much on offer, the trickiest part is deciding what to watch next.
That’s why we’ve put together the below guide to make things that much easier!

For the well-informed

With the world on the edge of their seats as unprecedented global events unfold, keeping abreast of the latest news and information has never been more important.
To make sure viewers across the country have access to the most up-to-date and accurate information, we’re making more content available than ever before.

What’s new?

Pan-African, multilingual and unbiased news channel africanews is available for the very first time on DStv. The channel (DStv 417) launched on 20 March and promises authoritative coverage of Africa, replicating sister channel euronews’ success & expertise in Europe.

In addition, we’ve also made several 24-hour news channels available to all DStv and non-DStv customers via the DStv Now app. DStv Now is the online version of DStv and, until the end of April, everyone can enjoy access to these news channels at no additional cost:

For the kids

Looking for new ways to keep the kids entertained in-doors? DStv has introduced a new line-up of both fun and educational content to keep those young minds engaged.

What’s new?

In addition to the educational content that can be accessed on Mindset (DStv 319), we’ve also introduced a brand new educational channel, Da Vinci (DStv 318) which will be available until the end of May.


DStv’s School of Laughter also welcomed Toonami, The Home of Superheroes channel to its catalogue. Launched March 27, the channel offers 24 hours of uninterrupted entertainment for the whole family.

Furthermore, Nickelodeon (DStv 305) has also now been extended to DStv Compact, Family and Access subscribers until April 14th. This means that even more of Mzansi’s kids can enjoy timeless favourites such as Sponge Bob Squarepants, The Loud House, The Casagrandes and PAW Patrol.

We’re also bringing Animania back! Your kids’ favourite movie festival returns to M-Net Movies Smile (DStv 105) from 30 March to 10 May, and will be available on DStv Now and Catch Up. Animania movies will be filling M-Net Movies Zone (DStv 139) with joy for the first time ever from 05:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 07:00 to 19:00 on weekends. And over on M-Net Movies All Stars (DStv 111), will be bringing you even more uninterrupted family-friendly movies every weekday from 13:00 to 19:30, and every weekend from 07:00 to 17:00.

For the sport fans

It’s no secret sports fans the world over are feeling the loss of live sport. To soften the blow, DStv is inviting sports enthusiasts to explore a range of completely new and exciting sporting content. From interviews with the greatest sporting legends of all time to reliving some of the greatest moments in sports history.

What’s new?

We’ve acquired award-winning sports documentaries from around the world and introduced themed sports channels to make it easy for you to catch up on the most-talked about moments in the world of sports.

In a bid to make more content available to more of our viewers, we’re also bringing SuperSport 1 to DStv Compact Plus and Compact, as well as SuperSport 7 to DStv Access. SuperSport 7 is devoted to La Liga, meaning you can view all the Spanish football action (once it is back on track), including the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. If you’re a football fanatic, this should be right up your street.

For the movie lovers

Staying away from the cinema will be a little easier over the coming weeks as we bring the latest in movie entertainment straight to your living room. With so much on offer, it’s no longer a question of what to watch, but what to watch first.

What’s new?

We’re offering up more new movie releases than ever before. Yes, you heard right - the DStv BoxOffice service is upping its offering to customers. There will now be 40 fresh-from-the-cinema movies available to view for just R25 - for DStv Premium, Compact Plus and Compact subscribers.

Beyond the world of Box Office, we’re introducing more in-demand movie content through a range of DStv channels. You’ve asked and we’ve listened.

In fact, you can view the very best of HBO movies from the last decade on our new pop-up channel (DStv 114). Think everything from timeless classics to some of the most acclaimed movies of our time.

For those who love to binge on series

It’s the question on everyone’s lips – are there any good series to binge on while we’re all enjoying a little extra couch time? The answer is there has never been more content available on DStv. In fact, to keep you company over the coming time indoors we’re not only introducing new channels and new series, we’re also throwing in the Box Sets of some of the biggest shows on screen right now.


What’s new?

Our dedicated HBO pop-up channel (DStv 114) promises the very best of HBO series and documentaries from the last ten years. From golden oldies like Sex and the City to the newest and edgiest series like Game of Thrones, it really doesn’t get better than this.

A brand new season of the best in local drama, Lockdown, will be airing on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) every Sunday from 5 April. Season 5 continues its roller coaster ride of ups and downs at the Thabazimbi Women’s Correctional Facility where everyone has exactly one thing on their minds – surviving lockdown.

Sticking on the local front, M-Net’s number one rated show of 2019, Trackers, will also now be available to DStv Compact customers for the first time. The widely acclaimed South African crime thriller is based on Deon Meyer’s novel of the same name. The gripping series is a must for anyone who likes a bit of intrigue to end their day.

To top things off, we’re making even more of the hottest shows in town available as Box Sets. That’s right – you can binge until you drop with nothing stopping you!

What would downtime be without the right tunes to lighten the mood? We’d rather you not risk finding out! That’s why MTV is stepping up its game over the next while, offering exciting new content and more of your old favourites than ever before.

What’s new?

As part of a fresh new spin on one of its one most beloved and iconic franchises, Unplugged, MTV will be coming directly from the homes of some of your favourite artists. In keeping with the spirit of the Unplugged series, MTV Unplugged At Home will see artists perform two to three stripped down acoustic versions of their greatest hits and discuss the meaning and inspiration behind each song from the comfort of their own homes - all while you remain in the comfort of yours.

We’re also bringing viewers across the continent some of their favourite local and international shows in stacked episodes. Now you can watch everything from Geordie Shore to Lasizwe throughout the day.
