kykNET launches exclusive new channel on DStv Access

kykNET Lekker is now available on DStv Access (ch. 148).

For the first time ever, Access subscribers will have access to DSTV’s premium Afrikaans content from the kykNET Channels when kykNET Lekker, DStv channel 148, launches on Monday 9 March.

kykNET Lekker will be an exclusive for Access viewers – it won’t be available on any of the other bouquets.

“kykNET Lekker joins other kykNET channels to showcase Afrikaans content on an affordable and accessible package for DStv subscribers. It will become the home of a variety of the best Afrikaans programs from the kykNET vault and will only be available on the DStv Access package,” confirms director of kykNET channels Karen Meiring.

“It is the first Afrikaans channel on Access -- the only Afrikaans channel on the DStv-Access package,” says Karen. And rather than open one of the existing kykNET channels like kykNET & kie to Access viewers, Karen tells DSTV.co.za that, “kykNET has an incredible archive and we are sitting on a volt of exclusively and locally produced Afrikaans content. We looked at the most popular shows that we’ve produced over the last 20 years and we selected a variety of genres to share. Hence we have capacity for offer more content to more DStv subscribers.”

What’s on Lekker

kykNET Lekker will showcase something for the whole family including children’s entertainment, soaps, lifestyle and talk shows, talent reality shows and music. Here’s just a small sample of what you can expect…

Lifestyle

Fitness queen Linda Kriel will be getting us off the couch to start our days the right way with Kry Daai Lyf. She’s covering all the bases, from explaining and demonstrating how a proper warm-up session goes, to high-intensity workouts and ab-crunching programmes to give you that core strength. Break out those yoga mats and follow along. If your TV remote is still in your hand, hey, it’s a beginner’s free weight!

Weekdays at 06:00

Kids

Children’s show Teddies follows the adventures of three bear siblings, Bennie, Bella and Bessie (actors in fuzzy bear suits) in their little village of Drukkiedorp.

Weekdays at 06:30, 06:45, 07:00 & 07:15

Bundu Buddies packs all sorts of exciting, surreal action into its 15-minute episodes. The series features animal pals (again, they’re actors in some rather funny and imaginative fuzzy suits – including Nadia Beukes as Kallie the monkey) who play games, sing songs and read stories – all with a positive social message.

Weekdays at 17:30 & 17:45

And Groentjie brings children into nature as they follow along with best friends, Lienkie, Jakes and Johnny, who get to meet all sorts of animals thanks to their guide, Oempie.

Weekdays at 17:00

Soaps

Soapie fans will be able to see Cape Town-based soapie Suidooster all the way from episode one. Set in a suburban shopping centre, this soapie introduces three intertwined families and a whole bunch of wicked business shenanigans. Suidooster was the first South African soapie to show a Muslim wedding. And just wait till you meet Mymoena Samsodien (played by Jill Levenberg) – that auntie we know and love.

Weekdays at 19:30 and 20:00, Omnibus on Saturdays at 08:30-13:30

kykNET Lekker’s second soapie, hospital-based drama Binnelanders will be airing episodes from season four (the 2008 season) onwards. The season opens with accusations flying and some injections that certainly aren’t in line with the hypocritic oath as Dr At Koster keeps his daughter Roelien drugged and helpless in an institution.

Weekdays at 18:00 and 18:30, Omnibus on Saturdays at 13:30-18:30

Entertainment

Season one of variety-talk show Jou Show Met Emo brings you comedian (and Noot Vir Noot host) Emo Adams at his silliest, with loads of his famous friends to start the party. Whether he’s making celebs pretend to be dolphins in a guessing game, pretending to auditions for Idols, training (and flirting with) traffic cops or dancing his little heart out, Emo keeps it casual and enjoyable.

Time: Saturdays at 19:30

Talent reality

And kykNET Lekker viewers will sign off each day with beautiful music and music videos.

Music game show Kom ons Karaoke pits three teams of three players each against one another in a series of five musical games, with the goal of winning the title of Karaoke Champion. Presented by singer Jannie Moolman, accompanied on keyboard by Janine Neethling.

Saturdays at 21:00

Put on your dancing shoes for another throwback – ballroom dance band competition show Sakkie Langarm, featuring the late music legend Hennie van Loggerenberg as a judge.

Sundays at 16:30

Joltyd is a bit of a trip back in time. Presented by the late and beloved musician and “Mr Entertainment” himself, Taliep Petersen, this reality series features local minstrel troupes competing for a title.

Sundays at 20:30

And there’s even more marvellous music in store with shows like #Luister (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat at 22:00, Sundays at 22:30), #Karaoke (Thursdays at 22:00) and #Duidelik (Tuesdays at 22:00).

Brand new channel kykNET Lekker launches on Monday 9 March as DSTV Access channel 148.
