On-field rivals, off-field fans!

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates may go head-to-head on match days, but when it comes to watching DStv, they share the popcorn!

There are some South Africa rivalries that are so legendary, that they’re practically an institution. The Soweto Derby is one of them, with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans practically coming to blows ahead of the match. Another South African institution is DStv, with hundreds of channels and bursting with local flavour.

We asked these on-field rivals what they like to watch on DStv, and it turns out, they have plenty of favourite DStv shows and channels in common. Who knew?!

“We are always channel-hopping”

Midfielders Fortune Makaringe of Orlando Pirates and Dumisani Zuma of Kaizer Chiefs go toe to toe on the field. One hails from Vosloorus and the other was born and raised in Pietermarizburg. But something they have in common is that they’re both obsessed with local TV, and never miss an episode of The Throne and Pay Your Papgeld.

“My earliest memory of DStv is watching the 2010 FIFA World Cup”

Linda Mntambo of Pirates and Siphelele Ntshangase of Chiefs are midfielders with their money on their feet and their feet on the money! They’re both super competitive, but they’re also both super-fans of SuperSport channels on DStv, watching rugby, cricket, MotoGP, Formula 1 and tennis. Funny enough, they’re both fans of Rafael Nadal.

“I’m big on comedy”

It’s no laughing matter when Buccaneers’ winger Thembinkosi Lorch and George Maluleka of the Glamour Boys face off against each other in a Soweto Derby. But off the field is another story. They both like to relax with a comedy show or an action movie.

And if they miss an episode they turn to Catch Up or see what’s on DStv Now.

“There’s always something on DStv”

Defender Lorenzo Gordinho of Kaizer Chiefs grew up in Benoni and when he’s not making sure that any Pirates make it past his defence, he’s watching Cartoon Network. Happy Jele loves to watch cooking shows, and he’s a fan of cartoons too.

There’s so much to choose from on DStv.
