Say I Do, I Do, I Do to 3 90 Day Fiancé shows

Don’t miss all the drama, love stories and heartbreak on 90 Day Fiancé spin-off shows coming to TLC (DStv 135) in August

During the lockdown, S4 of TLC’s hit reality show 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days’ viewership increased by 45% in the US. It pulled in 4.2 million viewers per episode – the highest it has ever been for any show on the channel.

The attraction of Before The 90 Days (one of 9 spin-off shows from the original 2014 No Day Fiance series) isn’t just that fans get a front-row seat to watch love-stricken Americans travel across the world to meet their online significant others for the first time. Or that the couples move in together for three months before deciding whether they’d like to tie the knot or call it quits.

The pull factor to the 90 Days shows is the cast and the crazy twists and turns in their storylines. They’re shameless in their quest to find true love which, at times, comes across as desperate and naïve. Like when it was revealed that mom of 6 Yolanda Leaks was catfished by her online boyfriend, Williams, at the Tell All special. At first she was in denial and desperately clung to a fantasy that she’d run off into the sunset with him. Sadly, the man she fell head-over-heels for didn’t exist.

Making a comeback

Now the S4 cast return in a brand-new spin-off show – 90 Day Fiancé: B90 Days Strikes Back! This time, they’re in the comfort of their own homes, reliving their funniest and most outrageous moments while filming. Each week, they will watch footage of themselves on the show and react to their most dramatic actions. They will also read comments on social media, with fans dragging them. And they will watch remarks that cast members from previous seasons of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise made about them during the earlier spin-off series, 90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk.

The S4 cast are going to take the backlash with a pinch of salt on B90 Strikes Back! They’ve already embarrassed themselves by airing their dirty laundry in their romances, so what are a few insults? It’s not like their fans are telling them to get an STD test or patronisingly telling them how to use a toothbrush (Confused and appalled? Read on!). Here are the couples who are striking back.

Ed and Rosie

If you haven’t seen memes of Ed Brown aka Big Ed (54), a photographer from California, and his much younger ex-girlfriend, Rosemarie Vega (23), on social media, you’ve been living under a rock. Their honeymoon stage ended the evening he landed in her home country, the Philippines. He forced her to shave her legs because he “isn’t used to hairy legs”. Soon after, he requested that she takes an STD test when he was unwilling to take one himself. It gets worse: he also gifted her a toothbrush, minty mouthwash and toothpaste because “she has bad breath”. At that point, viewers were enraged, so was Rose. Towards the end of Big Ed’s trip, she did what she should’ve done the second he handed her a shaving stick: she dumped him and never looked back.

Where are they now: Rose and Big Ed trashed each other on social media for weeks. She claimed that he used her to gain followers, and he stated that she only dated him for a Green Card. Since appearing on the show, Rose launched an online clothing store and a lifestyle YouTube page. Ed is embracing his newfound fame, mostly posing on his Instagram page with his fans. He also sells “Big Ed” branded mugs and T-shirts on his website.

Stephanie and Erika

When Stephanie Matto (29) left New York to meet her girlfriend, Erika Owens (24), in Australia, the latter thought they were going to paint the town red. Instead, she got the opposite. Because Stephanie has a rare bone marrow disorder, she didn’t always feel like partying or hanging out with Erika’s friends. To top it off, Stephanie was a closet case and wasn’t confident with her sexuality, which further complicated her already shaky romance with Erika. The two couldn’t agree on anything, so it was a relief when they put an end to each other’s misery and went their separate ways.

Where are they now: Stephanie also has a lifestyle YouTube page and admits that she’s still single and looking for her match. Erika, on the other hand, is off the market. She recently revealed her boyfriend Chris to the world.

Avery and Ash

A couple who explored the beautiful Australian scenery was Avery Warner (32) and her Melbourne-based single-dad boyfriend, Ash Naeck (38). Although he planned the most exquisite dates, like their walk at a Koala park, they eventually split. Their romance couldn’t survive the distance after she returned to Washington and her “feelings were fading”.

Where are they now: Avery and Ash’s romance might be over but they’re still friends and they’re still in contact. She’s working on a revenge body, while he is working on his mental health and trying to be the best dad to his son Taj, who made a cameo on Before The 90 Days.

Darcey and Tom

If there’s someone who has a relationship with the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, it’s OG Darcey Silva (45). She began her journey on 90 Days Fiancé: Before The 90 Days S1 (2017) with her then-Dutch boyfriend, Jesse Meester (27). Things took a turn for the worst when he moved in with her in Connecticut. Their relationship was toxic. They’d bickered and fought all the time. The last straw in their relationship was their explosive argument over a piece of steak in S2 (2019). They broke up and she soon moved on with her British beau, Tom Brooks (39) in S3 (2019). As with Darcey’s relationship with Jesse, her romance with Tom crumbled. Tom ghosted Darcey and she discovered that he moved on with a Canadian woman on social media. A low blow of note.

Where are they now: Darcey is seeing someone new, a Bulgarian hunk named Georgi, who happens to be her type: emotionally unavailable, much younger, easy on the eye and has an accent. She’s also filming her new drama-filled reality show, Darcey & Stacey, with her twin sister, Stacey. Tom is also taken. He announced on Instagram that he has “an amazing love in my life. I hope you can respect that I’d like to keep this private, I won’t let anything ruin this as she’s important to me.”

David Murphey (60) left his cats, Mothra and Gamera, in Las Vegas to search for his mysterious Ukrainian girlfriend, Lana (28), after he’d been chatting to her on a pay-to-chat dating site. He revealed that he spent over $200,000 over the 7 years they’d been “dating”. After David landed in Ukraine, Lana avoided his calls and messages, so he hired a private investigator to find her. His loved ones were convinced that she was a catfish but surprisingly, she was real. They met at a restaurant and he popped the question days after meeting. Although she hesitatingly agreed to marry him and promised to move to the US, she went back to her old ways and stopped returning his calls after he returned to the US.

Where is he now: David and Lana’s relationship status is still unclear. He is on bended knees, praying that she reciprocates his feelings. “Lana and I haven’t officially broken up. We don’t communicate like we used to,” says David in the first episode of B90 Strikes Back!

Yolanda. Yolanda. Yolanda… Where to even begin with likeable and sadly gullible Yolanda Leaks (51)? She was prepared to give up everything to meet her eye-candy suitor, Williams, in England until she learnt that he was a fake. Her overprotective kids discovered that the photos he sent her were stock images from the Internet. It turns out that Williams is actually a Nigerian man called Uche.

Where is she now: Yolanda is back in the dating game. Her daughter, Karra, is helping her regain her confidence and set up a dating profile. Here’s hoping that Yolanda finds the man of her dreams.

You want more?

The 90 Days Fiancé franchise is the gift that keeps on giving this August. Here are other spin-offs you can look forward to this month:

90 Day Fiancé: What Now?

In 90 Day Fiancé: What Now?, couples from past seasons of the franchise are updating viewers on their lives since the cameras stopped rolling. They reveal whether they’re still together and if not, they provide all the details that led to their split.

The cast includes South African Ronald Smith (29), from Johannesburg, who appeared on S1 (2019) of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way with his American wife, Tiffany Franco (27). She took a chance on love and moved in with him at his parents’ house with her son. The pair got married in an intimate setting and weeks after their wedding, she announced her pregnancy. Due to the crime rates, Tiffany was concerned about raising her kids in South Africa, so she returned to the US to give birth. Their romance was stronger than ever when their season ended, but Tiffany revealed in January this year that they’d separated following cheating allegations. Fans will catch up with the couple to hear their sides of the story.

And look out for Avery Mills (20) from the US, who got married to Syrian dentist Omar Albakkour (25) in S3 of 90 Days Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, despite her family’s disapproval. They celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary in February this year.

90 Day Fiancé: What Now? Loren and Alexei’s Birth Special

Fan favourites Loren (31) and Alexei Brovarnik (31), who viewers first met on S3 of 90 Day Fiancé in 2015, are sharing their son Shai’s birth during the global pandemic in the spin-off “90 Day Fiancé: What Now? Loren and Alexei’s Birth Special”. The couple are sharing their excitement and concerns about being first-time parents.

It was love at first sight for Alexei and Loren in 2013 when she visited Israel on a birthright trip – a free holiday for Jewish young adults between the ages of 18 and 32. He was the tour’s medic and she couldn’t stop herself from staring at him. He moved to the US after 2 years of long-distance dating and they got married soon after. Their birth special shows how far they’ve come as a couple, from constantly being at each other’s throats, to caring for each other and being one another’s support systems during Loren’s difficult pregnancy.

Watch 90 Day Fiancé: Loren and Alexei Baby Special starts on Tuesday, 18 August on TLC (DStv 135) at 21:00
