A toast – to the return of Being Bonang!
She was just 15 when she made her TV debut, and right away you could tell – this girl had something special. Bonang Matheba has come a long way from her early days as a presenter on the music show LIVE, (now called Live Amp) and at YFM and Metro FM. It was at LIVE where Bonang began building her fanbase and earned the nickname “Queen B”.
Give the people what they want
High-profile TV gigs quickly made her a household name and the nation’s darling. With her iconic voice, vibrant personality, gorgeous looks and, of course, that killer smile, Bonang has been the number one choice to present notable events like Miss South Africa, the MTV Africa Music Awards and the BET Awards.
Bonang’s brand has also propelled her into the fashion and beauty industry, and she’s had some extremely successful partnerships with some of South Africa’s leading brands.
From A to B…to MCC
Her memoir “From A to B” got off to a controversial start when the launch edition came under fire for spelling and grammatical errors. Not that the B-hive (her die-hard fans) was deterred from following their Queen. The book was hastily recalled and re- issued, because if there’s one thing this lady knows how to do, it’s turning a challenging situation into a profitable endeavour. She’s also determined to own the narrative – literally – which is why her own production house, Bonang Matheba Entertainment, has her reality show, Being Bonang, under its wing.
One of the highlights of the new season is a “sparkling” new business venture she has recently entered into - which just goes to show that the real secret to Bonang’s success is an extremely astute business brain behind a million-dollar smile.
