5 things to know about Toks & Tjops
1. Lekker laughs and chats
Toks & Tjops is an informal talk show with hosts Toks van der Linde, Breyton Paulse and Janina Oberholzer who welcome guests on a weekly basis to “gesels” around a lekker braai, not just about sports but also what’s happening in their lives and the stories making headlines around the world. They’ll share their opinions about various sports issues, and even sing a bit.
2. Cool cricket chats
For the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the Toks & Tjops team will keep viewers up to date with all the developments in the tournament every Friday night at 20:00 on kykNET. They’ll discuss the highlights of the past week – on and off the pitch and behind the scenes – the great catches, the big hits … and the big misses.
3. Interviews with cricket legends
Over the course of the Cricket World Cup, Toks, Breyton and Janina will also welcome several legendary names into the studio to talk cricket. They will share their first-hand experience of the game, swap insider stories and put everything into context for fans.
4. New theme song
Toks & Tjops got a new theme song in April. The song, aptly titled “Braai”, was written and sung by Afrikaans musicians Jakkie Louw and Pietman Geldenhuys, also known as Pietman Skot. The song has a rock ’n roll-edge infused with African sounds. During a guest appearance on the show, Jakkie was asked by Toks if he would write a new theme song for the show, and since Jakkie has known Toks since he was 16, he naturally said yes.
5. Food for thought – and fun
The chef, Vaatjie (Tommy Dickson), is responsible for all the food and food preparation on the show. In 2012 Tommy was given an opportunity to cook once a month as a grill expert on the show. After a few episodes he was asked to join permanently, and he has now appeared in hundreds of episodes. To complement and enhance the grilling and cooking skills he’s accumulated through years of practical experience, Tommy completed his formal chef’s qualification and was first in his class when he was student of the year in 2014 at the HTA Culinary School.
