Is this the American Dream… or Not?
The Brits takeover the Sunshine State in Living the Dream, a comedy series following a family who relocates to Florida in search of greener pastures.
What’s the series about?
When the Pemberton’s threw caution to the wind and left rainy England for sunny Florida, their aim was to fulfil the long-held illusion of the American Dream. For so many, it’s the land of milk and honey (current political climate not withstanding), and this light-hearted show explores such nuances, like leaving the comfortable and familiar for the new and unknown.
This series follows Mal and Jen Pemberton and their two teenage children as they navigate life in their new home. With the new recreational vehicle that Mal’s just bought, he plans to start a booming family business, and as is the nature with some of our grandiose plans — they don’t pan out. Jen realises that American suburbia is not that receptive to strangers in their neighbourhood (and it doesn’t help that they are British), and the children… oh the poor children. Now they need to adapt to US high schools and deal with culture clashes they can’t avoid in their day-to-day life.
Philip Glenister and Lesley Sharp star as Mel and Jen Pemberton, while Kim Fields plays Rhoda, their talkative and caring American neighbour who can never mind her own business. Game of Thrones alum, Brenock O’Connor, plays the couple’s teenage son and Rosie Day (Outlander) is their daughter, Tina.
Living the Dream S1 starts on Monday 25 November on ITV Choice (123) at 20:00
