When you think of a serial killer, do the words “witty”, “kind” and “generous” come to mind? Yeah, didn’t think so.

However that’s exactly how Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen describes his Prodigal Son character, Dr. Michael Whitly. In the show, notorious serial killer Dr. Whitly is the father of Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne - The Walking Dead), a criminal psychologist who uses his knowledge of how serial killers think to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers.

For Sheen, Whitly is a walking contradiction. “He seems to want to have a relationship with his son - a genius at catching serial killers - and yet the horrors he’s committed suggest that sort of a connection should be impossible.”

Every week, viewers will take one step closer to finding out whether Dr. Whitly’s desire to have a connection with his son comes from a genuine bond or is an attempt to retain power and control?

Watch it every Wednesday at 19:00 on M-Net (101).

“It goes beyond the procedure”

What makes this family drama different from any other? Well for starters, the primary character’s father says in episode one: “we talk about murder the way most people talk about sports.”

Viewers will enjoy this show because it’s a gripping look into the life of a family whose past demons have been triggered.“Bringing in the family element to juxtapose your bloody crime scene and your forensic reports really humanises everything,” states Bellamy Young, who plays Bright’s manipulative mother Ainsly Whitly in the show.

Can you escape your true nature if your true nature frightens you? Find out in Prodigal Son, every Wednesday at 19:00 on M-Net (101).

“Nothing like a little murder to cheer you up”

Imagine, for a second, that you catch killers for a living. Your father is one of the most notorious serial killers that ever lived, and he taught you everything there is to know about the criminal mind.

Now, imagine partnering with your serial killer father to help the police solve other murders. This is the eerily intriguing story behind the hugely successful series, Prodigal Son.

“Every killer has their signatures”

Premiering Wednesday 19 February at 19:30 on M-Net (101), Prodigal Son centers on Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne - The Walking Dead), a psychologist who has a gift for understanding how serial killers think, because his father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen - Masters of Sex, Frost/Nixon), was once a notorious serial killer called The Surgeon.

Bright is the best criminal psychologist around, and murder is the family business. He uses his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with his manipulative mother, Jessica Whitly (Bellamy Young - Scandal, Criminal Minds), his annoyingly normal sister, Ainsly Whitly (Halston Sage - The Orville) and a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son, not to mention his own constantly evolving neuroses.

The only way Bright feels normal is by solving cases with the help of his longtime mentor, NYPD Detective Gil Arroyo (Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Lou Diamond Phillips - Longmire, Stand and Deliver). Arroyo is one of the best detectives around, and he expects no less from his team – Detective Dani Powell (Aurora Perrineau - The Carmichael Show, Jem and the Holograms), a headstrong no-nonsense cop who quickly becomes impressed with Bright’s work; and Detective JT Tarmel (Frank Harts - Master of None, Billions), a born-and-bred New Yorker who questions whether Bright is a psychopath himself.

“It’s kind of...genius”

During an investigation, Malcolm uncovers a striking bit of information - the killer they are investigating is impersonating another serial killer...his father, Dr. Whitly!

Bright enlists the help of his father to uncover the impersonator and solve other murders. But will this unsuspecting dream team become dangerous? Is Malcolm more like his father than he’d care to admit? Will the serial killer father get his son back?

Find out when Prodigal Son premiers on Wednesday 19 February 2020 only on M-Net (101).
