She sees dead people
The InBetween, a new supernatural crime procedural, revolves around Cassie, a woman who helps the police by sharing what she sees in the world that lies between ours and another.
Better than Haley Joel Osment who saw dead people in the film, The Sixth Sense, Cassie not only sees them, she becomes them. Cassie Bedford (Harriet Dyer), who works as a bartender in Seattle, has a special gift – or curse. She can make contact with the “inbetween” world of people who have died but who haven’t yet crossed over into heaven or hell, as well as people who are on the verge of dying. She can also relive short moments from the past from the viewpoint of people who have died.
While Cassie doesn’t fully understand her gift yet, she uses it to not only help the man who raised her detective, Tom Hackett (Paul Blackthorne), but also various dead people who appear to her looking for revenge, justice, closure or to pass along a message to their loved ones or those who killed them.
Cassie inherited her gift from her mother, who herself didn’t want it, succumbed to alcoholism and abandoned her daughter to be raised by Tom and his therapist-husband Brian.
Cassie’s gift doesn’t only allow her to see good people who have died but also criminals. Apart from helping to solve weekly crimes, she is also ‘stalked’ by a dead serial killer throughout the first season in a separate storyline.
The dead serial killer is trapped in the inbetween and wants to move on but needs Cassie’s help to do so. Reluctantly Cassie decides to help him, and, in return she gains insights into crimes and the mindset and motivations of murderers.
Together with detective, Tom, and his new on-the-beat partner, detective, Damien Asante (Justin Cornwell), – who are both aware of Cassie’s gift – the trio tackle homicide investigations that without her supernatural powers might never be solved.
Watch The InBetween on Fridays, starting 30 August 2019, on M-Net (101) at 21:00.
