Life is messy and stressed right now. If only we could get a little guidance from someone who seems to have it all figured out. Celebrity Call Center on E! (DStv 124) allows people with interesting problems to make a phonecall and reach out to the celebrity panel for help. The call gets routed to the celebrity most likely to be able to help, who then digs into their own lives and remembers how they confronted similar situations, or just offers their two cents on the issue. The rest of the panel chips in when they can weigh in on the conversation, sometimes just with amusing comments. The series was recorded live during the calls so celebs don’t have time to work things out – what you hear is what they’ve got.

The call-in panel of celebs changes in each call, with 4 different panels of 4 celebrities each standing by to dish out advice in each episode. But it will always feature celebs of a widespread set of ages, races, sexes and fields of experience, who’re standing by at home just waiting for the phone to ring.

Dr Terry Dubrow of Botched (who’s taking calls along with his wife, Heather) says, “I was amazed at how varied the advice was and how funny it was. Some of us agreed with other celebrities and didn’t agree with others. I thought I was particularly good.” Heather adds, “There were some out-there questions. I like to not know questions beforehand; I like to fly by the seat of my pants. Terry likes to hear everything in advance. He wants to think about things.”

Don’t call us we’ll call you? Not during lockdown! Now is the time for ordinary people to pick up the phone.

Make that call

Here are just 5 of the stars who could be on the line, and their areas of expertise:

Terry and Heather Dubrow (plastic surgery reality show Botched)

Ask us about: Relationships.

As one of the few pairs on the panel, Terry and Heather are expecting to field questions about how people can get along with each other and balance household and professional responsibilities fairly. Their daughter, Max, also recently came out as bisexual, so they’re perfectly placed to ask about how parents can build trust and support their kids so that it’s not something they feel needs to be a secret in the family. “You deserve to be a happy person, and if you’re not living your truth, I don’t think you could be living as happily as you could be,” says TerryHe adds, “We’re really good advice givers, we’ve been through everything.” And that includes whether it’s a sound financial decision to sell your car to finance a boob job.

NeNe Leakes (reality show The Real Housewives of Atlanta)

Ask me about: Anything you need a loud, bold and fabulous opinion on, including how to be both loud and fabulous.

“Yes, we are all still social distancing, but people need advice and I was put on Earth to give it to them,” says NeNe. Previously on the show Celebrity Show-Off, NeNe picked up a megaphone to offer people advice at her Drive Through Advice centre, and graciously drank her wine and handed out wigs (using a pair of tongs) while she did it. NeNe has one piece of advice to anyone who’s stressed from being in the public eye, which she gave to her fellow Housewives stars: “If this is really stressing you out, so much so, you might want to take a break for a little while." No shade: you need to put your mental health first.

Loni Love (stand-up comedian and judge on The Funny Dance Show and former host of The Real)

Ask me about: Having the courage to be the one X at a party full of Ys, and making career choices that work for you.

Loni grew up in the notorious Brewster housing projects and was an electrical engineer (she worked for Xerox) before she got downsized and reinvented herself as a comedian. People love her vivacious charm, but she has had to fight off her own insecurities to make her mark. “No opportunity is too small. Do it all to hit your goals,” says Loni. “Life is about goals to me.” Loni is also an online dating expert and her special trick there is to avoid coffee dates because they show a lack of commitment. It’s dinner or we’re done for Loni Love. But she’ll start with texting and then phone conversations before she gets there.

Kelly Osbourne (judge of Project Runway Junior)

Ask me about: whatever, honey.

No problem is too embarrassing for Kelly, who’s made a name for herself in her career with her brand of sweetness, openness and non-conformity. One of the first questions she gets asked on the show is about how a woman should handle her boyfriend’s addition to pornography. Her advice? “Don’t come at him like he’s doing anything wrong or weird, you can come at it like you want to please him, you want to make sure that he’s happy because you love him and you want to make him feel the way that he makes you feel. Maybe you can watch it together and see if it’s something that you’re into as well?”

Trixie Mattel (Star of RuPaul’s Drag Race and winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars)

Ask me about: Things you don’t want practical advice for, really. Maybe how to handle being not poor after you grew up being very poor. Or how to become a successful businesswoman – when you’re a man.

As co-host of astronomically popular online drag comedy chat show UNHhhh (55 million views and counting), Trixie is used to dragging her worst mistakes into the light for laughs. Trixie also has a YouTube channel with 691,000 subscribers and her own cosmetics company and she’s a successful country music artist. “Well, I wanted to do this show because I wanted to reconnect with what’s really important in life, which is speaking directly into a camera for vast amounts of money,” quips Trixie.
