It’s the battle of the bands in Simon Cowell’s new X Factor spin-off
Get ready for a very special Xmas X Factor: Simon Cowell is looking for the best new girl or boy band this December!
At 60, Simon Cowell remains such a restless jack-of-all-trades that the iconic talent show judge, producer and talent manager has put together a very special spin-off show of X Factor just in time for the festive season – X Factor: The Band. This time the hunt is on to find the UK’s best new girl or boy band.
“We are hugely excited to confirm The X Factor: The Band to air in December 2019,” the producers say. “Simon Cowell and The X Factor team have discovered some of the biggest pop groups in history, including One Direction, Fifth Harmony and Little Mix. Now the aim is to find the new superstar group – though now in record-breaking time."
Simon has made it clear that it is his mission to discover the UK’s latest pop phenomenon with the star wattage to compete with famous K-Pop acts such as the top-selling boy band BTS.
“Very simply we are going to try to find either the biggest boy group in the world, or the biggest girl group in the world. K-Pop is ruling the world. This is a show to find a band to launch UK-Pop. It’s more than winning a record contract – it’s starting a new music wave,” says Simon.
Tune in for four extra-length episodes of X Factor: The Band with Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger who will both be back as judges. They will be assisted by industry experts like Leona Lewis who has already been announced as the first guest judge and, of course, Dermot O’Leary will once again do hosting duties on the show. Showrunners have revealed that the judges will be given free rein to speak their minds, and there will be no mincing their words when it comes to letting competitors know exactly what they think of their attempts.
“It will be like a throwback to the old days where they’ll say what they really think – even if it comes across as harsh. There won’t be any time for wasters,” the show’s creators revealed.
