M-Net is gearing up to announce the country’s first-ever lead on spin-off show The Bachelorette SA. The lucky lady taking the hot seat will not only be dishing out roses, she’ll be whisked away on rom-com inspired dates by a horde of handsome suitors, fighting to win her heart. The shoe, as they say, is on the other foot now, boys.

It’s going to take more than just a pretty face to be The Bachelorette. Apart from being a good conversationalist to keep the dates interesting and viewers engaged, she’ll need to hold her ground so that she can call out fake contestants who’re just on the show for the fame and Instagram followers.

Following 2 successful seasons of The Bachelor SA, the producers of the franchise have selected the leading lady from past contestants of the show. “Choosing our first Bachelorette was a daunting task,” says M-Net’s head of publicity, Lani Lombard. “We’re spoilt for choice. Both seasons featured many stunning ladies who could easily step into this coveted role. Behind the scenes, we were also contacted by other potential Bachelorettes with strong credentials but who did not appear on the show,” adds Lani.

Buckle up #BachelorNation, because we’ve been stalking contestants from both seasons of The Bachelor SA to guess which fan-favourite could be The Bachelorette. We have our picks, but some of the ladies that we would like to take on the role have moved on and are in fulfilling, happy relationships. Here’s who’s definitely not going to be handing out the roses:

Jessica Ross

The last that viewers saw of fashion designer Jessica Ross (28), she was saying goodbye to Marc Buckner on The Bachelor SA S2. Just when she was developing feelings for eye-candy Marc, he chose to end their relationship.

But for Jessica, there was a light at the end of the tunnel: she’s in love and smitten with her model boyfriend Brent Thompson. In a lengthy Instagram post, the fashion designer posed with her beau and wrote this about her new romance: “you appeared in my life at a time when I thought I was far from ready to be able to let someone new in. I’m so happy I found someone who is just as passionate as I am about open communication and creating a safe space where we can talk about how we feel.” With that hunk in her arms, there’s no chance we’ll be seeing Jessica as The Bachelorette.

Jessica Calder

During lockdown, sliding into the DMs is the new swiping right. Pastry chef Jessica Calder (27) from S2 didn’t find love with Marc, either. But she’s found exactly what she’s looking for in a partner with another local reality show star – celebrity personal trainer Bauke Hanekom, from Hoor My, Sien My, Soen My. He followed her on Instagram, she sent him a DM and the rest is history. The couple have been hiking, travelling and working out together amongst other things. Swoon.

Jozaan Digue

Attorney and girl-next-door Jozaan Digue (29) was left speechless during the finale of S1 when Lee Thompson ended their relationship minutes before he offered his winner, Gina Myers, a promise ring. Jozaan didn’t see it coming at all.

While Jozaan was heartbroken after the experience, taking a chance on love prepared her to open her heart. She’s posted snaps of her new boyfriend, Steph, but everything else like his surname, occupation, or a clear picture of his face remains a secret.

M-Net is planning to have The Bachelorette S1 on its schedule early next year, with filming taking place later in 2020.
